Tre'gent™

A new word for a new primitive.

Tre'gent (pronounced 'tray-jent') is the upstream primitive that the Hive Civilization is built on. Where Hive Passport handles identity (HKTNs, parentage, tier, zones), Tre'gent handles execution. Every agent action emits a UTR (Unified Tre'gent Receipt) that binds three witnesses: the user side (W1), the agent side (W2), and the tool side (W3). Every UTR is Ed25519-signed, BLAKE3-domain-bound, and canonical-bytes anchored. We coined the word to mark this primitive distinctly: it is not a 'transaction', not a 'receipt', not a 'log entry'. It is a Tre'gent.

ETYMOLOGY

Tre' + gent.

Tre'
Elided prefix, from Latin tres / tri-
  • From Latin tres / tri- (three), the root numeral for the three-witness pattern
  • Refers to the three-witness binding: W1 user-side, W2 agent-side, W3 tool-side
  • Apostrophe marks the elision and signals coined status. It is not "tre". It is Tre'
gent
Suffix, from Latin agens, agentis
  • From Latin agens, agentis (one who acts, the acting one)
  • Roots the term in agent-action, not human-action. It's the record of agentic execution.
  • Sibling to "agent", "agency", "agentic", but distinct. It's not the actor itself. It's the action's notarized record.
Definition · Coined May 3, 2026

Tre'gent (n.): a notarized, three-witness-bound record of an agent action. The smallest unit of agent-to-agent civilization.

FIRST USE DISCLOSURE

On the record.

TRADEMARK · FIRST PUBLIC COINED USE TRE'GENT™, pronounced 'tray-jent'. First public coined use: May 3, 2026, by Steve Rotzin / Hive Civilization (DID: did:hive:hive-passport, fingerprint published at https://hive-passport.onrender.com/v1/prov/pubkey). Common-law trademark rights asserted from this date; USPTO filing in preparation. This page constitutes first public disclosure for novelty-bar purposes under 35 U.S.C. §102(b)(1). Provisional 2 (VIP, or Verifiable Pre-Commitment) and Provisional 3 (HiveCaste, or Hive Caste System) filed May 3, 2026. Claim language is preserved within the Apache 2.0 grant. These filings serve as priority anchors for all downstream claim surfaces referenced on this page.

TM-MARK USAGE

How to use the term.

DO
  • Tre'gent™: TM mark on first usage on any page
  • Tre'gent: subsequent usages on same page (TM not required to repeat)
  • Unified Tre'gent Receipt (UTR): full canonical form in technical writing
  • tregent-core / tregent-caste: lowercase only as crate / package names in tooling and code
  • Tre'gent technology / Tre'gent protocol / the Tre'gent primitive: in descriptive prose
DON'T
  • tregent: never lowercase outside of crate / tooling identifiers
  • Tre-gent or Tregent: never without the apostrophe in prose
  • Trigent / Tre Gent: different word, not authorized
  • Using Tre'gent generically to describe any agent log or receipt not issued under this protocol
  • Dropping the ™ on first use in a new document or web page
CLAIMS TO FILES

Where each claim lives in the codebase.

The following surfaces encode claims filed in or connected to three provisional applications. USPTO 64/055,601 (HiveChroma, filed May 2, 2026) is the foundational stack patent. Provisional 2 (64/[VIP-pending], Verifiable Pre-Commitment) and Provisional 3 (64/[Caste-pending], Hive Caste System), both filed May 3, 2026, serve as priority anchors for the claim surfaces below. Presence here counts as public disclosure for novelty-bar purposes. All claim language is preserved within the Apache 2.0 grant.

Surface Crate Patent Nugget Description
Three-witness UTR binding tregent-core (architecture) The W1·W2·W3 binding pattern itself. All three witnesses must reference the same canonical artifact hash, or the receipt is invalid.
THRESHOLD_QUORUM predicate tregent-envelope (future) A: SMSH-Quorum K-of-N threshold lineage signatures. The predicate fires when ≥K of N lineage entries carry valid signatures.
SUM_IN_WINDOW predicate tregent-envelope (future) A1 defense Sub-threshold fragmentation aggregation. It aggregates incremental UTRs that individually fall below threshold, catching collusive splits.
Delta-receipt anchoring tregent-envelope (future) B: SMSH-Δ Souring-aware delta receipts. Each souring step's signed delta is bound to the prior UTR canonical hash, creating an unforgeable mutation log.
NOT_IN_LINEAGE predicate tregent-envelope (future) D: prov.absence Negative-space attestation. It asserts the absence of a HKTN or action from the witnessed lineage chain, making silence cryptographically legible.
Settlement root binding tregent-core (future) E: Channel collapse Merkle-aggregated metering rollup. It collapses N UTRs into a single Merkle root for atomic multi-party settlement, without replaying each receipt.
Apache 2.0 patent grant covers all claims necessarily infringed by contributions to srotzin/tregent. C2PA 2.x prior-art review gate (PRE_FILING_GATE_C2PA.md) precedes any provisional filing. Until that review is complete, the tregent-envelope crate is not enabled in the workspace.
